SoHo, used to be a languishing industrial center in the 60s, was revived by artists who moved into industrial lofts for low living costs. They transformed the neighborhood into a residential area, introducing galleries and patrons, thus attracting other businesses, turning SoHo into the commercial center that is known today. Nowadays, Chelsea and the Lower East Side take the name of the art center. However, it is said that the galleries are returning to SoHo.
